A few words about the car from the current owner (ebay advertisement 1/8/08):
Up for auction is my 1988 Corvette Challenge Racecar...The vehicle is # 5 of the 56 total produced. And was driven by Mike Hughes, of Georgia, for the 1988 season only. The car was sponsored that season by Precision Auto Centers. After the 88 season, the car was made part of the Americana Hall Fame Museum in New York City and remained there until calendar year 1998 , when the car was acquired by a private party...Mike Yeager of Mid America Designs for his private collection. I, myself, bought the car in 2003, as an addition to my own personal collection, as well.
Though raced in 8 of the 9 1988 series races, it escaped all of the many crashes. So, today, it remains in excellent original condition, with no known stuctural damage. The vehicle is still in as raced condition and could be prepared, should one desire, to compete in current historic competion events. Have most of the important paper trail....all the log records....the window stickers...original engine tags ...some period newspaper articles.
