A few words about the car from the current owner:

1988 Corvette Challenge Car #76.  Corvette built 56 legal corvettes for the ten races in 1988 for the SCCA Corvette Challenge race series.  Engines, stock but matched for power output, were built at the Flint engine plant, sealed and shipped to Bowling Green for standard assembly.  The cars weren't built in sequence because the Corvette plant built in color batches.  During the season most engines were exchanged by Chevrolet for new, sealed engines with more evenly calibrated power output.

Fifty identical Chevrolet Corvettes will compete in a $1 million Sports Car Club of America challenge race with showroom stock 1988 models.  The 10-event series is expected to find some of America's best roadracers competing for the biggest showroom stock purse in the history of SCCA.  The 50 Corvette Challenge series cars will be identical to all other 1988 Corvettes except for the roll bars, racing seats and other safety equipment.  Production engines have been built, tested and sealed so that all competition is on an equal basis.
