A few words about the car from the current
owner:
The bright red #3 car was the overall series winner
for 1989 and was driven by Bill Cooper of the Valley
Chevrolet Team of Wilkes Barre, PA. Featuring the
new for 1989, ZF six-speed transmission and FX3 adjustable
suspension, the car also has the unique “Corvette
Challenge” racing seats and roll cage installed.
In addition to those features, the car wears a set
of lightweight cast magnesium Dymag racing wheels
and the unique, 1989 only exhaust manufactured by
Desert Driveline for the series. Extremely free flowing,
the thunderous pipes dumped out spent gases from the
rear body panels just behind the tires. This car was
the teammate to the #7 Challenge car (also on display).
My father, Chip Miller, was very excited about acquiring
this Corvette because of the winning background, it’s
a great car and miraculously managed to escape the
series without any major damage! There were three
incredible memories that my father and I had with
this particular car:
1) Winning the Bloomington Gold award – driving
through to accept the award together.
2) Displaying the car in the Special Collection for
the theme “Victory Lane”.
3) Watching my father participate in the Pittsburgh
Vintage Grand Prix – great people and incredible
racing on the streets!
4) Chip's Choice 2006 #230
Credentials:
Original Logbook, Bloomington Gold Certified, displayed
at the 1994 Special Collection XI “Victory Lane”
display.
Documentation:
Pictures of the car with championship driver Bill
Cooper next to the car, pictures of the car racing
at various races, picture of my father in the car
while getting judged for the Bloomington Gold award,
pictures of my father and I accepting the Bloomington
Gold award, many magazine articles and pictures and
video tapes of each race during the ’89 series.
Other interesting facts:
- This car won the 1989 Corvette Challenge Championship.
- Cooper used car #5 at Mosport and St. Pete (the
final two races) to save car #3 because he had already
won the championship.
