What do you feel the current value is of the 1988 Corvette Challenge car?
What do you feel it will be 5, 10, 20 years down the road?
Thanks,
BigJ |

BigJohn-
Thanks for posting on ShowYourCorvette.com. Now to answer your questions:
1) The current value of an '88 Challenge Car?
This is a tough one to answer. The '88s, 89's & R9G's are all collectible cars in my book. But that's just one mans opinion - I'm curious to hear what others here have to say. The reason this is a tough question to answer is because these cars have a lot of variables in making there current value fluctuate. Here are a few examples: how did the car finish the overall series, was the car ever in any accidents, who drove the car & so on. If the car was driven by a well known driver and finished in the top 10 & wasn't ever wrecked I'd give a fair market value of approximately $30,000 - $35,000 (or a bit more perhaps).
2) 5, 10, 20 years down the road - I'd expect a significant increase in value - but only time will tell. If you love the car and enjoy owning it - it doesn't matter what the value is. Go get one if you really want one, life is short - enjoy it!
Hope this helps!
Lance
PS I'm looking forward to hearing other responses to your post. |

I think they are going to be a very collectable car down the road. I would pay top dollar if I could find another one. |

i do believe that recently on Barret Jackson an 89' challenge car went for close to 300K!
i find very ridiculous but seems almost realistic |

You are incorrect, that was an '89 DR1 - I was the second to highest bidder on the '89 Challenge Car but didn't win it. The car sold for $71,500, check out the article written in Corvette Market Magazine: click here for more info.
Hope this helps,

In that case I may be able to afford a car that was a loser / wreck driven by a nobody special. Cool! Can anyone point me to one of those? |

These cars don't come up for sale very often... you'll just have to keep searching!

Even Corvette people don't know much about C4's. It may be a decade or more before anyone cares. Even the Anniversary cars don't really bring a premium over the value they receive based on condition. They are definitely for people who are passionate about what they are and aren't going to sell them for a very long time.
Putting them on display at Carlisle is defenitely a good way to get them in front of enthusiasts and changing the current perspective. Will you be bringing yours to Carlisle? |

Rathbone,
Wish I could. I'm in CA. Carlisle is in PA. Too far. I think youre right on the money. Getting these cars out in public will be a positive thing. |
